CDM is the Collegiate Discipleship Ministry at the University of Arkansas. We are "Students of the Word" fulfilling the Matthew 28:19-20 Great Commission of Jesus Christ. We train to be disciples in order to train others to be disciples.

Whine or dine?!

What do you do with an unhappy child? Give him a bottle of milk, of course! This solution is so successful, it is used over and over again by parents around the world. But at some point, the baby has to grow a little bit and learn to stop whining. He needs to grow teeth, and start eating something more substantial than milk. Eventually he needs to eat meat. Yeah baby. A big, juicy porterhouse steak. Are you slobbering yet?

For those who don't grow up and kick the bottle, their lives are usually one big complaint. They whine about others not fulfilling their needs, they whine about their classes, they whine about their teachers, they whine about the food, they whine about their roommate, etc., etc., etc. You know what I'm talking about. Everyone knows a whiner or two at least. And unfortunately, they are everywhere on campus. Just read the school newspaper.

It is pretty obvious to everyone else that an 18 year still drinking from a milk bottle just isn't right. But have you ever stopped to wonder about an 18 year who still whines? You have to wonder when the kid will grow up and start doing something with his life and solving problems instead of whining. Sure whining is so easy even a caveman can do it, ... and babies. But it takes an adult to tackle challenges, show flexibility in difficult circumstances, and solve problems. So, the question to ask yourself is, "will you whine or dine your way through life?"

Welcome to the world of college where you make tough choices. If you haven't done so yet, it is time to grow up. Specifically, it is time to put away the milk bottle and start chewing meat. Did you know this is a Biblical teaching? Look at Hebrews 5:12-14. It says, "For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

Wow. What a challenge. But if you are ready for spiritual growth and eating meat, CDM is the place for you. We dig into the Word of God to find answers. We tackle the tough questions in the Bible and in our classes. We don't have all the answers, but no one does; especially the Bible critics. And you know what makes our Bible studies really great? Friends. We study and share Scripture with each other, fellowship, pray, have a great time together, and enjoy what we do. Whether it is Bible studies, volleyball, pizza fellowships, prayer meetings, worship, or ministry trips, we always have a great time.

You are welcome to join us. Meet some great, friendly, sincere Christians, find answers to hard questions that bug you, learn how to give answers to that critic in your class or in the dorm, and hang out at some wholesome, spirit-filled activities. We are praying for everyone at the UA to hear about Christ and to be encouraged in Him. Will you join us in this effort? We're praying that you will say 'yes.'
